Summary

This book was pretty weak。 It had some funny lines and some funny moments, but it was all so pointless。 The sum total amounted to nothing。

Allison

I listened to the audiobook, hoping for Jim Carrey to read it。 He does not。 That was a disappointment。

Irv Hoffman

Terrible, don’t bother , what a waste of time !

Kat

Mostly misinformation, with a decidedly damning ending。。。but I give it four stars for being completely unpredictable and full of a rather classic literary existential angst。

Jessica

Well, there was a lot to process after reading this。 One of my favorite actors!

Colleen

I'm not sure if there was really a plot to this so much as a collection of musings from Jim Carrey's wandering imagination, but I enjoyed the prose enough and Jeff Daniels as the audiobook narrator I'm not sure if there was really a plot to this so much as a collection of musings from Jim Carrey's wandering imagination, but I enjoyed the prose enough and Jeff Daniels as the audiobook narrator 。。。more

Personally, I think that people who are giving this book bad reviews are really not in tune with the spirit of the kind of satire that Jim is going for here。 If you grew up with Mad Magazine and National Lampoon or have at least a working knowledge of satire, this book is a great ride through the underbelly of Hollywood and of filmmaking and the overall human dilemma of malaise, ego, desperation, and so on。 This is classic Carrey humor, beautifully achieved, virtuosic storytelling (thanks also t Personally, I think that people who are giving this book bad reviews are really not in tune with the spirit of the kind of satire that Jim is going for here。 If you grew up with Mad Magazine and National Lampoon or have at least a working knowledge of satire, this book is a great ride through the underbelly of Hollywood and of filmmaking and the overall human dilemma of malaise, ego, desperation, and so on。 This is classic Carrey humor, beautifully achieved, virtuosic storytelling (thanks also to Dana), and a missile to the heart of entertainment, with every intention of ultimately making it all better。 The sweetness of Jim shines through in the self-effacing sarcasm and the good-natured ridiculing and ribbing。 If you want more of this kind of storytelling, try Mark Leyner's Et Tu, Babe or The Sugar-Frosted Nutsack。 This book may not be for the faint of heart or the politically austere or the social scolds。 It is quite wonderful for those who are open-minded and love multiple genres。。。 。。。more

yikes。。i didn't like it at all, & i actually can't even believe i read through the entire thing。 i will admit i did think this was an actual jim carrey memoir, but the title does hold a lot of truth since there is a lot of 'misinformation' (more 'misinformation' than 'memoir' tbh)essentially what i found was that this book was going everywhere, but nowhere all at once。 i don't even know how to articulate what i read。。the writing style was excruciating to get through, especially during the first yikes。。i didn't like it at all, & i actually can't even believe i read through the entire thing。 i will admit i did think this was an actual jim carrey memoir, but the title does hold a lot of truth since there is a lot of 'misinformation' (more 'misinformation' than 'memoir' tbh)essentially what i found was that this book was going everywhere, but nowhere all at once。 i don't even know how to articulate what i read。。the writing style was excruciating to get through, especially during the first half of the book because transitions did not exist, literally nothing flowed, i had no idea what was going on, ideas were flying out left, right & center, it was pure chaos。 i felt like every chapter had it's own mini story, kind of like a collection of short stories, but even looking at them individually they were hard to get through。 overall, i like jim carrey as an actor & i can appreciate the fact that he branched out into other arts such as writing a book, but i strongly believe his writing is not for me。 。。。more

If you liked Jim Carrey's movies, there's a good chance you will hate this book。 I'll start with the positives。 The writing style of the book is fantastic。 The editing is pristine。 The phrasing is crisp and vivid。 Every scene is very clearly laid out and easy to imagine。 Sometimes that's a good thing。 Other times, you wish you hadn't witnessed what just happened。 Now for the negatives。。。The plot, on the other hand, is borderline schizophrenic。 If the character Jim Carrey is any indication, the w If you liked Jim Carrey's movies, there's a good chance you will hate this book。 I'll start with the positives。 The writing style of the book is fantastic。 The editing is pristine。 The phrasing is crisp and vivid。 Every scene is very clearly laid out and easy to imagine。 Sometimes that's a good thing。 Other times, you wish you hadn't witnessed what just happened。 Now for the negatives。。。The plot, on the other hand, is borderline schizophrenic。 If the character Jim Carrey is any indication, the writer Jim Carrey has no idea who he is。 Identity crisis is a thread that runs through the entire book。 The general mood of the book is both cynical and paranoic。 The events happen in a moral void and there's very little hope of anything resembling redemption。Ultimately, I stopped reading because the content was just so empty and heavy。 I've read amoral literature before, but I just didn't see the overall picture, and the point of continuing。。。 。。。more

This satirical "anti-memoir" is a bat shit crazy trip that will make you feel like you're on drugs。 Written by Jim Carrey about Jim Carrey, it uses details from his actual life & career alongside a cast of celebrity characters to tell a fictional & apocalyptic tale that parodies the pants off of Hollywood。 There are so many funny moments—from his two identical military-grade Israeli guard dogs that are trained to offer him affection, to preparing for a role as Chairman Mao in a biopic written by This satirical "anti-memoir" is a bat shit crazy trip that will make you feel like you're on drugs。 Written by Jim Carrey about Jim Carrey, it uses details from his actual life & career alongside a cast of celebrity characters to tell a fictional & apocalyptic tale that parodies the pants off of Hollywood。 There are so many funny moments—from his two identical military-grade Israeli guard dogs that are trained to offer him affection, to preparing for a role as Chairman Mao in a biopic written by Charlie Kaufman, to starring alongside Rodney Dangerfield reincarnated as a rhinoceros in a Hungry Hungry Hippos movie, to fighting off an alien invasion alongside Nicolas Cage and Gwenyth Paltrow。 。。。more

Boy, was this one a wild ride! I really have no idea what my thoughts are, so I’ll leave my rating at 3 stars for the moment。 I feel as though this is what it’s like inside Jim Carrey’s mind。 Not quite sure what to make of this but I’m glad to finally be finished with this one。

I will start by saying that I have no idea what Carrey was trying to do with this novel, but jesus christ he did something! Growing up a devoted Jim Carrey fan, I felt but only obligated to read Memoires and Misinformation, but about a third of the way in I sat there thinking “What the hell did I get myself into?” In an effort to provide a spoiler free summary, I will provide this: prepare for a salvia trip, a midlife existential crisis, and an apocalyptic hell of a time! Admittedly, I would not recommend this book to everyone, but if you’re a Carrey fan of the stranger type; an avid pot smoker; an alien enthusiast, and/or regularly binge Ancient Aliens, or enjoy the random history documentaries that occasionally pop up on your Youtube feed; a flat-earther; believe that most celebrities and powerful people are actually reptilians or involved in the illuminati; and someone not squeamish in the slightest (I feel it’s an important trait for this read), then I am sure this book will appeal to you。 Overall, I devoured his writing as quickly as I could with the anxieties of both wanting to be rid of it and wanting desperately to know what the hell was going to happen next。 There are also so many references to his past works, which, for someone as die hard of a fan as I am, trully sparked an excitement in me! TL;DR If you like Jim Carrey and are into some weird shit, I highly recommend。 。。。more

I have to be honest, I thought it was his autobiography。 It is not, it’s weird science fiction, not at all what I expected。

This book was definitely a journey, but blending fiction and reality was done so well。 I feel like I can make some guesses at what actually happened and what didn't but I don't think I'd be correct on all of them。 Blurred lines between fiction and reality was executed really well。 What I wouldn't give to just sit down with Jim Carrey and just pick his brain on what I'm sure would be an absolute rollercoaster of a conversation。 This book was definitely a journey, but blending fiction and reality was done so well。 I feel like I can make some guesses at what actually happened and what didn't but I don't think I'd be correct on all of them。 Blurred lines between fiction and reality was executed really well。 What I wouldn't give to just sit down with Jim Carrey and just pick his brain on what I'm sure would be an absolute rollercoaster of a conversation。 。。。more

None of this is real and all of it is true - Jim Carrey。 This quote is all there is on the back of the book which is why I bought it。 At first I was afraid that it was going to be another celebrity semi-autobiography about how banal and depressing it all is (not belittling mental illness, I know all too well how real it is and that it has no respect for status), and I was ready to lose respect for one of my favourite fellow Canadians。 Then shit got real with Carrey unashamedly willing to look li None of this is real and all of it is true - Jim Carrey。 This quote is all there is on the back of the book which is why I bought it。 At first I was afraid that it was going to be another celebrity semi-autobiography about how banal and depressing it all is (not belittling mental illness, I know all too well how real it is and that it has no respect for status), and I was ready to lose respect for one of my favourite fellow Canadians。 Then shit got real with Carrey unashamedly willing to look like an asshole and like a real, vulnerable human being with feelings。 Then shit got unreal again, culminating in the end of the world。 Don't want to spoil it for you, but we're first lead to believe that we're all part of the Truman Show, then we're thrust into pulp science fiction。 Spoiler alert: John Travolta gets flicked in the left testicle while wearing a glittery gold bodysuit and a clownish battle wig。 Kanye West's ego makes a pathetic appearance and his wife runs away from him。 (Eerily prophetic)。 And Tom Hanks isn't as selfless as he seems。 Would recommend 。。。more
